Glenside is a 100 year-old farmhouse situated 8 kms from Winterton in the Central Drakensberg on a working farm.  It has magnificent Berg views with wooden floors, high ceilings and wide verandahs and is the ideal place for friends and family to meet and relax.

Freedom to walk, ride bicycles, birdwatching and walk along the river.

Nestled in the peaceful Champagne Valley is the 3 bedroomed, 2 bathroom cottage, Ihophe. This double-storey cottage has unrestricted views of Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peak and Dragons Back.

4th - 6th October 2019: Berg and Bush Descent

The 3 Day Descent is the main flagship event.  "Proper Mountain Biking" with awesome single track showcasing the best routes we have to offer.

Prize money for the professionals!

Peak View self-catering cottage is situated on a timber farm close to major tourist attractions, adventure centres and MTB trails.  It has a magnificent view of the Central Berg - see image above.

There is a swimming pool for summer and a fireplace to cosy up to in the winter; DSTV; good security and safe, undercover parking.  The cottage can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children.


Cathkin Trails is a NPO which was set up in March 2017 with the purpose of building and maintaining a network of running trails in the Cathkin Valley.

There are currently 30 kilometres of trails which have been built and marked with another 10kms waiting to be marked.

Fees:  Before using any of the trails, trail runners must sign an indemnity and pay a nominal fee.  They will then be given a wristband to identify them as registered runners by the landowners.

The starting points are The Nest Hotel, Valley Bakery, Mountain Splendour, Ardmore Guesthouse, Champagne Sports Resort,  Drakensberg Brewery

R20 per day for runners;
R200 per week;
R700 for Annual members with unlimited use of the trails.

Ledges Retreat is a peaceful guest farm set in a picturesque valley in the Northern Drakensberg, close to the Royal Natal National Park and the Amphitheatre.

Our self-catering Farmhouse is spacious and sunny and sleeps 5/6 people. It has a fully equipped kitchen, lounge, dining area, fireplace and large patio with BBQ and stunning mountain views.

Facilities include a swimming pool with BBQ area and a trampoline. The Putterrill Spruit fronts our property and has plenty of rock pools for kids to splash around in. We are surrounded by over 150kms of world class mountain bike trails, and plenty of space to just walk/run and enjoy the fresh country air and scenery.

Cathkin Trails is a non-proft organisation based in the Central Drakensberg. We are passionate about mountain biking and are dedicated to developing and maintaining a network of mountain bike trails in the Cathkin Valley area.

Fees: Cyclists need to sign an indemnity form and pay at the various start points before using any of the trails. A wristband will then be issued for easy identification by landowners and other trail users.
